Apart from being a facinating, fun, attention grabbing activity our 'SmoothieBike Make n' Taste' sessions provides a great opportunity to reinforce the important message that good food and activity are vital ingredients in a healthy lifestyle.
As well as the obvious links mentioned above, over the past four years our partners
have used our Smoothiebike activity to publicise and draw attention to a wide range of issues for example:
  • Waste Reduction - we worked with Northumberland County Council to raise awareness of benefits of making fruit smoothies from fruit that may otherwise be thrown away
  • Active Travel - A number of our partners have used our attention grabbing activity to promote active travel as being both a personal and environmental benefit
  • Heart Health - We have worked with students studying for a health qualification using our smoothiebike to monitor cardiovascular health
  • Alternative Energy - A fun and very visual way to explore how we convert the sun's energy - from food into food!.

SmoothieBike or SmileyBike?

We think we ought to rename our pedal powered smoothie maker as it seems to make everyone who sees it break out in a smile!
All that we require is space - we can provide; ingredients, tables, banners & even a gazebo!

From the mouth . . .

"A fun activity that engaged the pupils and which had an educational benefit. Students became very competitive as results were recorded and compared. Students were able to get an immediate result and were able to evaluate their current fitness levels from the various indicators.

The members of staff were helpful, enthusiastic and gave additional information regarding the results. They set up the activity and took charge of the running. This enables the teacher to concentrate on the results"
King Edward VI School

"Fantastic - people loved it and thought the smoothies great - we know of at least three families who now make them at home!"
Blyth Valley CVA

"It raised awareness around healthy eating with young people, using different fruits in a fun way that they could really participate in."
North Tyneside Youth Services

"Really important in getting young people involved, practically, in making and trying different foods which are healthy
& easy to make.  A Comment from a young person after the event:  'I would never usually buy  a smoothie
but after making and tasting my own, I will'."
