SmoothieBike Make N’ Taste workshop
1. The principle is simple – participants are invited to make their own smoothie recipe from a range of fruits and juices. This provides an opportunity to talk about the ingredients e.g. ‘did you know that bananas are great for energy?’, ‘why do you think calcium is good for your body’, ‘did you know smoothies count towards your Five-a- Day?’ etc. This is then linked to messages about the health benefits of activities such as cycling, walking and sports. 2. The participants then get the fun of peddling their own smoothie and tasting the results! For some it is the first time they have tried a smoothie, for others it provides the opportunity to retry something that they have perhaps not liked previously and for some, like one 84 year old, rediscovering the ‘fun of riding a bike’. They are also reminded that you do not have to have a SmoothieBike to make smoothies – low cost alternatives are demonstrated. |
